Big Value Outlet (BVO)

BVO Mission - Through a distinctively designed store and with particular attention to our local customers’ needs, we will provide unique values and a product assortment not available elsewhere.  We will be an integral part of the community and provide an alternative experience to national chains.

HISTORY - Big Value Outlet has a long and proud family tradition in the greater New Bedford area.  The origins of the store date back three generations to grandfather Matthew Tatelbaum, who opened the first Mars Bargainland in August 1962.  The second Mars soon followed in 1965 and was located in our current BVO location here at 718 Dartmouth Street in South Dartmouth.  After years of summer and school vacation work, Matty’s third son David proudly joined the Mars team full-time in 1974 following college graduation.  The BVO model evolved out of the Mars discount store concept and we’ve been improving on it for nearly 20 years.  Grandson Evan became a part of the BVO team in 1992 and father and son carry on the tradition of value, loyalty and community established and nurtured so well by father and grandfather, Mr. T, Matty Tatelbaum.
